Pastor Alan’s Announces Retirement

To the members and friends of Murphy Presbyterian Church,

I am announcing my retirement as your pastor. My official date of retirement will be March 31, 2017. My last Sunday preaching and leading worship will be on March 26th.

I am so grateful that our Father led us to Murphy so many years ago. This congregation nurtured us, comforted us in sorrow, and gave overwhelming support in every way possible. Together we made the transition to the EPC which has truly been a blessing. We have grown in our faith and have faithfully reached out to others in our community and to the world. It has been a joy to be your pastor, friend, and fellow laborer in Christ.

I realize that this action may seem sudden. However, Frances and I have been praying about this possible change for some time. The Lord has shown us that it is time for me to retire. The LORD led me here 34 years ago and now it is time to leave. I love all of you!

Frances and I plan on remaining in Murphy. Frances has several years left before she can retire from the school system. I plan on being a house husband and spend more time with our darling granddaughter! I have also made a long list of home projects and want to do some fishing.  I will also continue serving the presbytery working with the Ministerial Committee.

We will be visiting local churches and the EPC churches in Franklin. We will not be attending MPC when I am retired. It is not wise for a retired pastor to attend the church where he has served. It will be better for the church and for us to attend elsewhere. We know you will understand and help in this transition. We want only the best for the church.

I ask that you will begin praying for our Father to lead you to your next pastor. Be praying for him and his family. At a later date, the church will need to select a nominating committee to begin the search process. Please keep the elders in your prayers as they will be filling in until a pastor can be found. At our annual congregational meeting on January 29th, the congregation will need to give approval of the dissolution of the pastoral relationship.

May His grace and peace guide us into the future!

To God be the glory!
